It's not necessarily uncommon for a president to win an award for being the "Best Man of the Year" or anything along those lines, but what is uncommon, as it has never happened before, is a candidate winning TIME's Person of the Year Award while their campaign isn't even finished yet. In the TIME Person of the Year award polls, Bernie is steadily rising in the polls, and is holding a strong and firm lead ahead of many of this year's more influential figures. The polls end on the 6th, and it'll be interesting to see as to who wins.
While this is certainly an unexpected development, I definitely can't see this hurting him if he wins the poll. Rather, it seems like a great way to get more exposure for his platform and get more people familiar with what his opinions and ideas are, which would almost certainly help him in the presidential polls.
