Polls
It seems as though the gap between Clinton and Sanders has slimmed down to a fine 7% with Hilary Clinton at 48% and Sanders catching up with 41%. Their chances seemed to have increased after their impressive performance during the debate along with Joe Biden's departure, leaving his supporters turning to other candidates, such as Sanders, for alternatives.
Though, it seems as though Sanders has encountered an issue among many democrats, including his own supporters. His position on guns. Sanders acts in the interest of gun owners, which seems to be an unpopular stance in the democratic wing. As mentioned in an earlier post, he advocates that America should close the loopholes in gun legislation, ban assault weapons, and increase mental healthcare in order to prevent gun involved crimes that have been happening much more than ever. According to the article, Iowa Poll: Gap Tightens Between Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, 46% of Sanders' own supporters, along with about 60% of the Democratic causcusgoers, are troubled by his gun views. Thus, posing a possible challenge for his future.

I don't really understand what is controversial about his stance of gun control among his supporters. I mean, all the points listed in this post seem like typical Democrat fare regarding guns.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is one of the better approaches to gun control. Allowing people to have guns, but not big guns can let people feel safe and lower damage from crazy people, and going for closing loopholes will allow guns to flow to better people. I quite like this approach.

ReplyDeleteGun views are important to me, they signify what the person believes about freedom. I see how Bernie's stance could affect him negatively though.
ReplyDeleteSanders should stick to his plan about guns because that shows that his views stay his and nothing will change those views. I think its ok if hes a little behind Clinton, as long as he sticks to what he says.
ReplyDeleteI believe his issue on gun control is not a positive one. Like I said on the other blog, our society has gone so far on the issue of gun control that it will be hard to minimize and get rid of some big issue that our society has put effort into.
ReplyDeleteThe departure of Joe Biden has increased Bernie's chances at winning the nomination. Right now it's a tight race between him and Clinton. I'm looking forward to see who the DNC will choose as their party's nominee for the 2016 general election.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad how if a person is Democratic, they are expected to have the exact views as every other Democrat pretty much. Sanders' beliefs differ from Clinton's and he will most likely lose some support. However, he'll probably gain popularity if he keeps fighting!
ReplyDeleteWhen candidates talk about gun control I believe that there will always be people that disagree with the candidate, no matter what opposition one holds. Many may agree with his gun control policies while someone else may think it's absolutely absurd.
